Using an Amateur Officiant: What the Wedding Couple Should Know - Conclusion

Conclusion:

Time to decide if amateur officiation is right for you, or if an amateur officiant is right for your wedding. None of the issues listed in this "What the Wedding Couple Should Know" blog series need to be deal breakers.  All have reasonable solutions that should satisfy both parties.  They do, however, need to be communicated clearly between the potential officiant and the couple. The bottom line is that the couple should understand what an amateur officiant is, and what they bring to the event.

Most importantly, the couple should understand that the ceremony is not going to be perfect. They should also understand that thats ok, and even a good thing! One of the great things about an amatuerly officiated ceremony is that people are not expecting perfection.  The novelty, originality, and meaningfulness of having a friend/family member deliver the ceremony far outweighs any expectations of a perfectly delivered ceremony.  The message always sticks with the audience, not the performance itself.  As long as there is clear communication from the start, you are on your way to a great first performance as a wedding officiant!
